Cal/EPA Releases Fuels Guidance Document

The California Environmental Protection Agency (Cal/EPA) has coordinated the creation of a document that is intended as a starting point for potential fuel users, marketers and producers to better identify the regulations and requirements affecting their fuels. Version 1.0 of the guidance document, updated in response to comments received, has been released on Cal/EPA’s website.

The document includes consideration of :

  • Gasoline w/ E10
  • E85
  • Diesel w/o B5
  • Diesel w/ B5
  • E15
  • E20
  • E30
  • E100
  • Gasoline w/butanol 16%
  • B6-B20 Fuel
  • B21-B100 Fuel
  • R1-R100 Fuel
  • CNG
  • LNG
  • LPG
  • Biogas
  • Liquid Biogas
  • Hydrogen
  • Electricity
  • Urea (diesel exhaust fluid)

To those not immersed in the subject, the regulation of fuels can be confusing and difficult to understand. The Cal/EPA document is intended as a starting point for potential fuel users, marketers and producers to better identify the regulations and requirements affecting their fuels.

The state agencies coordinated by CAL/EPA to create this document are: the Air Resources Board, Department of Food and Agriculture, the Office of the State Fire Marshal and the State Water Resources Control Board.
