New gas tax increase proposed, unlikely to pass

A new guess appears ready to head to Congress, but there is little chance it will pass.

New gas to fund infrastructure deterioration?

15 cent hike on the table

How can the US cut $4 trillion off the deficit over the next decade?

One idea is a 15 cent gas tax increase to fund transportation infrastructure costs so that funding doesn't have to be drawn from the federal government's general funds.

According to CNNMoney though, the gas tax has little chance of successfully passing through Congress.

While groups like AAA are open to the idea, NAFA, an organization for auto fleet managers, would be against the tax.

“My own personal judgment is that the Commission recommendation is not going to go very far in Congress given the highly conservative complexion of new Congress,” also claims Ken Orski, publisher of the infrastructure newsletter Innovation NewsBriefs.
