GM selected LG Chem, its provider of battery cells for the Chevrolet Volt, as the Supplier Corporation of the Year in the 19th annual Supplier of the Year awards.
The Supplier of the Year awards recognize the contributions of GM’s suppliers in 2010 as part of the company’s global product and performance achievements. This year’s awards recognized 82 automotive suppliers. Sixty-three of the winning suppliers have been recognized at least one additional time since the awards began in 1992.
Including GM, LG Chem has secured contracts with 10 automakers including Ford, Renault and Hyundai-Kia. LG is building a new electrolyte production plant in Holland, Mich., which will go into operation in 2012.
