The Maine Turnpike Authority has chosen an interim executive director to replace Paul Violette, who resigned March 7. Authorities questioned Violette about the agency’s spending practices, including $157,000 in gift-card handouts to other organizations. The Turnpike Authority board voted March 17 to name former state Sen. Peter Mills as interim director.
