3rd row seating should be an option?
When the Toyota Prius V goes on sale in the US in April, it will still only seat 5 people, although cargo room has been increased by more than 50 percent. However, in Europe the Prius V will be known as the Prius +, and will seat 7 people.
Why not offer such an option for the US market?
According to Kicking Tires, the Prius + will offer a “50/50-split folding third row” that offers the ability to seat an extra two passengers. Now, obviously, third row seating probably wouldn’t accommodate adults, but I’d bet it’d be great for a few extra kids when needed.
Thus, why not let consumers decide whether they would prefer a third row of seating, especially since Toyota is already going to mass-produce parts for a third row?
It seems to me that many of families would love such an option. Is Toyota afraid a third row of seating in the Prius V would hurt Sienna minivan sales, resulting in thinner profit margins?
