The BMW i3 plug-in electric car, also known as the Megacity plug-in concept.

BMW’s mainstream take on plug-in vehicles

BMW’s electrification plans begin to shape up

MotorTrend has a number of great photos of the new i3 and i8 plug-in vehicles undergoing cold weather testing. Overall, the pictures aren’t too shocking, although the i3 plug-in electric car definitely appears far more conservative than the original Megacity concept.

The i8 plug-in hybrid, on the other hand, seems to be sticking to the original EfficientDynamics concept design language.

Still, it’s the i3 that’s most noteworthy, as the i8 will be a limited production vehicle.

Obviously, BMW isn’t releasing any details regarding this i3 test vehicle. Perhaps this isn’t really what the i3 is going to look like, because for a car that is reported to rely heavily on carbon fiber, this i3 vehicle is pretty mundane. So maybe this is just some kind of mule.

Anyway, for more photos check out the i3 on MotorTrend, or the i8 on MotorTrend.
