France-based Matra has engaged AllCell to manufacture lithium-ion battery packs for several of Matra’s light electric vehicle models sold in the European market. The lithium-ion battery packs utilize AllCell’s passive thermal management system using phase change material (PCM) (earlier post) to maximize vehicle power, energy density, life, and safety.
Each AllCell pack includes its patented thermal management material that absorbs and distributes heat within the pack to maintain moderate and uniform battery temperature. The material, which combines nano-level graphite flakes with high latent heat materials, allows the vehicle to operate at high power in hot environments without sacrificing performance, reliability, durability, safety, or cost.
Matra and AllCell will co-host a media event to disclose more details at the EV Battery 2011 Forum held in Barcelona on 12-14 April. The production order is part of a strategic partnership between Matra and AllCell to develop advanced lithium-ion battery packs for use in Matra vehicles and distribution to other European LEV manufacturers.
