Have USAA insurance? Consider these hybrids
USAA Insurance company has put together a list of its top automotive buys.
However, Cars.com warns “Of course, USAA inserts its insurance rates into the equation along with MSRP as it relates to a car’s features like engine type and safety equipment.” In addition to that warning, Cars.com offers several other yellow flags for car buyers trying to use this list (Read More).
Nevertheless, data is data.
In terms of hybrid cars, the Chevy Silverado hybrid and the Lexus RX 450h hybrid made the list of top picks in their respective segments. Bam! There’s your hardcore hybrid data.*
* But I have my own caveats.
In addition to Cars.com’s cautionary tale, it is also important to note that other companies, such as Kipplingers, Consumer Reports and others, seem to come to different conclusions regarding the best auto buys and values when all factors, including insurance costs, are figured into the cost-effective equation.
Again, if you’re in the market for a new vehicle, this is just data to add to your car buying formula, particularly if you insure with USAA. Besides, if you’re in the military – USAA is a leading insurer for those in the armed forces – then a topic like fuel economy must resonate since there is no doubt that US foreign oil dependence is correlated to the US military presence in the Middle East.
Anyhoot, this data supports an argument I’ve tried to make over the years – quite unsuccessfully though: GM’s hybrid pickup trucks are the most important vehicles that GM sells today, even including the very inspiring Chevy Volt.
Consequently, if you’re a hardcore American, especially when it comes to product purchases, buying one of GM’s hybrid pickups might be the most American purchase a new car buyer can achieve.
