Fifty years ago, when the interstate highway system was begun to link all sections of the United States with a modern, four-lane transportation grid, there was an immediate awareness of that project’s potential impact on Northeastern Pennsylvania. Given its geographical location in the eastern U.S. megalopolis, our region was poised to become a warehousing, distribution and highway transportation powerhouse.
