WASHINGTON – Legislation setting U.S. aviation policy also would override state rules on truckers’ work hours, drawing opposition from U.S. Sen. Cory Booker and other senators who say it could contribute to driver fatigue, a top concern of federal safety officials. Included in the legislation that would continue Federal Aviation Administration operations and shift air traffic control operations to private, nonprofit corporation is a provision to prevent states from enacting rules governing rest hours for truck drivers.
