When they saw the tanker in trouble on the northbound ramp of Exit 26, I-196 early Monday morning, at least three passing drivers parked their own rigs, hoofed it to the crash scene, and found the tanker driver lying on the ground outside of his cab, unable to move. Together, they dragged the large man by his arms and feet about 150 feet, far enough away from the crash to protect him from the inferno that ensued, fueled by 8,500 gallons of gasoline that the tanker was hauling when it spilled, South Haven Area Emergency Services Chief Ronald Wise.
