AN estimated 150 people are expected to be involved in the first two years of an innovative truck driver training program starting in Portland on Friday. The Freight Mate program, a partnership between Portland-based transport company Porthaul and South West TAFE, is aimed to deliver an intensive 12 weeks of on-the-job training, combined with up to 12 to 18 months accredited driver training program at TAFE.
