The Prius cannot be denied

Many hybrids are class leaders

OK. It’s not that big a deal that Kiplinger’s best car values for 2011 includes a number of hybrid vehicles as most fuel efficient vehicles in their segment for fuel economy. Big whoop, right? That’s what’s expected from hybrid cars.

Nonetheless, according to Kiplinger at least one hybrid is also best in class and a few other hybrids are the best new cars in their class.

Not surprisingly, the Toyota Prius is the biggest winner. The Toyota Prius is Best in Class in the $20,000-$25,000 range. According to Kiplinger the “Prius tops the competition with class-leading fuel economy, loads of cargo room, and low service and insurance costs.”

Additionally, Kiplinger named the Lincoln MKZ hybrid best new car in the $30,000 – $35,000 segment, while also naming the Hyundai Sonata hybrid and the Kia Optima hybrid as best new car options in their class.

The Cadillac Escalade hybrid, Chevy Tahoe hybrid, Ford Escape hybrid, GMC Yukon hybrid, Honda Insight hybrid, and Lexus CT 200h were all noted for offering class leading fuel economy.
