Truckers in Arkansas could soon be footing more responsibility to help make sure roads are in good shape. A bill on its way to Gov. Mike Beebe would let voters decide whether to boost the 22.5-cent diesel tax by 5 cents per gallon. The increase is one-half of a two-part plan that would help fund nearly $3 billion in interstate highway repairs and construction throughout the state.
