Four firefighters confronted by a catastrophic truck crash and explosion south of Charleville have been honoured for their exceptional bravery. The men were among the eight injured when a truck carrying ammonium nitrate rolled and exploded, blowing a five-metre wide crater in the Mitchell Highway near Wyandra on September 5. Lieutenants Jake Sullivan and Peter Hackwood were presented with the Commissioner’s Medal for Valour, with colleagues Nathan Thompson and Clinten McCarthy presented with the Commissioner’s Commendation for Bravery.
