The New Mexico Department of Transportation has asked lawmakers to change how weigh stations are managed in hopes of capturing the $56 million a year that analysts say the state is losing to truckers who don’t pay fees. The Santa Fe New Mexican reports that members of the House Transportation and Public Works Committee expressed support Friday for the proposal, which would put Transportation Department employees in charge of the state’s ports of entries.
