The Michigan Department of Transportation continues to roll back the weight restrictions on its highways.

Effective 6 a.m. Thursday, March 25, MDOT will lift seasonal weight restrictions on more state roads in the Lower Peninsula.

Spring Weight Restrictions March 25 OriginalWeight restrictions will be lifted from the southern Michigan border north to and including M-20 from the interchange with US-31 in Oceana County, east on M-20 to US-131, then north on US-131 to M-20 in Mecosta County, then east on M-20 to US-10 in Midland County, then east on US-10 to M-25 in Bay City,including the entire thumb area.

Frost restrictions are still in effect for the remainder of the state and will be imposed and enforced on all state trunkline highways north of this line. State routes typically carry M, I, or US designations.

In the restricted areas, the following will apply:

County road commissions and city public works departments put in place their own seasonal weight restrictions, which usually, but not always, coincide with state highway weight restrictions. Signs are generally posted to indicate which routes have weight restrictions in effect.
