Your driving could get complicated this weekend if you’re in or headed to Florida because of tropical storm Fred.
The National Weather Service’s National Hurricane Center’s briefing at 11:30 a.m. this morning, Aug. 13, said there is a tropical warning in effect for parts of Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Dominican Republic.
The weather service also suggests Fred could strengthen and move over the Florida Keys tonight and Saturday, and up the west coast of the state, and to parts of the panhandle by Sunday and on into Monday. Fred could eventually be felt into eastern Mississippi, Alabama, and western Georgia.
Forecasters with the weather service adds that Fred could deliver between 3 and 7 inches of rain over parts of the Florida Keys and coast. Winds are expected to be in the neighborhood of 40 mph, and the storm could spin up tornadoes in parts of Florida on the weekend.
In addition, the weather service is tracking another tropical system to the southeast behind Fred. If it continues to develop, it could be the second of a one-two punch to the region with heavy rain and winds.
