For-Hire Freight Movements Hit New Record High Level
New U.S. Transportation Department figures show the amount of for-hire freight rose 1.6% in July from June, the fourth consecutive monthly gain and a new record high. The increase places the department’s Freight Transportation Services Index at a reading of 124.6, while the June measure was revised up to 122.6 from 122.3. Numbers for January through May were also revised up slightly.

Trucker council inducts students
The Arkansas Trucking Association recently notified four college students of their acceptance into its 40 Under 40 Council, the first time college students have been inducted into the organization. “There was a gap because many folks in trucking were starting to age out of the business, so the association started this council to try to bridge that gap,” said Doug Voss, a member of the Arkansas Trucking Association’s board of directors and 40 Under 40 Council, and associate professor of logistics and supply chain management at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway.
